About
The person behind the loupes
Dr. Doug Whitelaw, BSc, DMD — a dentist who believes the best dentistry is the kind you need less of over time.
Dr. Doug Whitelaw · BSc, DMD
Curious by nature, conservative by conviction
Doug came to dentistry through science — and stayed for the people. Early in his career he noticed something uncomfortable: a lot of standard dentistry removes healthy tooth to make room for the repair. That didn't sit right, so he went looking for a better way and found it in biomimetic dentistry.
He has since trained extensively in advanced adhesive and minimally invasive techniques — the kind of obsessively specific craft where the difference between good and excellent is measured in microns. He'll happily explain any of it, at whatever depth you're curious about. Many patients discover they're more interested in their teeth than they expected.
When Dr. David Rushka went looking for someone to continue his 25-year Kamloops practice, this philosophy — and the care behind it — is what he chose.
Philosophy of Care
Why Whitelaw Dental?
"We help people who love to learn and care about their teeth to experience longevity and understand their oral health. Unlike traditional dentistry, our solutions remove less tooth and give you more choices in the future."
Purpose: to drill less and save more — breaking the tooth death cycle so you can keep the teeth you came with. Vision: a world where people keep more of their teeth.
Five things we won't compromise
The Space
An office that doesn't feel like one
Sage green walls, reclaimed wood, nature on the walls instead of posters about plaque. The office on Saint Paul Street was designed to feel calm before anyone says a word — because half of dental anxiety is the environment, and that part we can fix immediately.
Come by for a visit before you ever book an exam, if you like. We're happy to show you around.
- Downtown Kamloops — #201 – 418 Saint Paul Street, central and easy to reach.
- A familiar team — the same warm faces who cared for Dr. Rushka's patients for years.
- Modern, quiet equipment — magnification and adhesive workflows built for precision.
- Unhurried appointments — time to do the work right, and time to answer your questions.
